General Annotation
Sub Unit:
Neuronal AChR seems to be composed of two different type of subunits: alpha and non-alpha (also called beta). A functional receptor seems to consist of two alpha-chains and three non-alpha chains. The pentamer alpha3-beta-4 interacts with the conotoxin BuIA.
Function:
After binding acetylcholine, the AChR responds by an extensive change in conformation that affects all subunits and leads to opening of an ion-conducting channel across the plasma membrane.
Subcellular Location:
Cell junction
Synapse
Postsynaptic cell membrane
Multi-pass membrane protein
Cell membrane
